After Android 16 QPR2, Google is working on the next version: Android 16 QPR3.In beta testing at the time of the general public rollout in March 2026 on Pixel, this update has already revealed six interesting changes, which offer an improved user experience in the four corners of the interface.
The end of the iconic Google Pixel widget... finally
For those who aren't guilty of Google's Pixel Launcher, one interface element is set to change a lot in the next update.This is the Overview widget (Brief in English).Initially it could not be removed from the home screen, now it can be removed thanks to Android 16 QPR3.your only option is to cancel.

Android 16 QPR3 flashlight is inspired by iOS
Google is also creating new ways to educate users. Similar to what Apple has offered since iOS 10, Android 16 QPR3 allows you to change the light intensity of the LED flash, giving you more flexibility.
The feature is also modeled on the iPhone.A long press on the flashlight icon opens a context menu with a vertical cursor.Swipe up or down to adjust the light power.Users can choose between a low-key glow and a powerful beam.
This is an important addition for convenience for those who often use their smartphones as additional lighting. It allows you to adjust the light intensity so as not to dazzle those around you, or vice versa, increase the lumens to the maximum for a wide daylight-like effect on a night out.
New, more ergonomic navigation button
Navigation by button and put its small revolution on the Pixel with the layout of smartphones from Samsung or Xiaomi.In fact, thanks to the Android 16 QPR3 update, the traditional back (triangle), home (round) and recent (square) settings can now be turned into Recent, Home and Back.
A very practical solution for people accustomed to other brands, especially in terms of general ergonomics.By placing the back button on the right, the action becomes much more accessible to the right thumb, avoiding frustrating gymnastics on larger screens.In this way, Google is breaking the historical rigidity of the interface, providing more intuitive navigation.
Better privacy protected with improved location indicator
When it comes to privacy, there is also good news that is actually related to location.Previously, when the app used your location, it would display an icon, but it was impossible to know which one caused the location.You will now see a true blue icon at the top of the screen, which will turn green when the microphone or camera is also on.
A simple click on it brings up the microphone, camera and location menu, and it now clearly states the name of the app that geolocates.
Android 16 QPR 3 therefore offers a big advance in terms of privacy to visually discover which applications are following you in the background, and react immediately to keep your data safe.
Android 16 revises the connection for autonomy
Android 16 QPR3 also protects the Pixel's battery thanks to a redesigned adaptive connection.This feature, which was previously available through a simple interface, promised long battery life and works by automatically choosing between a 4G/5G network or Wi-Fi, is now divided into two different options.
The first is automatic switching to the mobile network, which allows you to leave unstable or too weak wifi to immediately switch to 4G or 5G.This is a guarantee that you will never lose connection, even if it may consume a little more mobile data.
The second is network optimization for autonomy.Here, the Pixel systematically supports the most economical connection, be it a stable Wi-Fi signal or a low-power mobile antenna to extend battery life.
Users thus benefit from much more granular control as it is now possible to enable these two options independently of each other, depending on whether you want to prioritize the stability of the connection, the preservation of autonomy or a mixture of the two.
Simplified settings menu for better readability
Finally, Android 16 QPR3 pays more attention to accessibility with the new system settings menu.Instead of a long list of sometimes confusing options, Google has opted for an organization into categories that are more visually appealing.
The emphasis on software at the top of the menu is an excellent example, with other features below now divided into individual sections, each in its own separate box.
The interface is streamlined enough to organize all the information, allowing everyone to find their way easily and intuitively.
